Posting Pictures of Tattoos
After the infamous post that Smith Street Tattoo wrote about people blogging and re-blogging photos of tattoos they’d made, and the subsequent debate on multiple forums, it made me reassess why I’d been essentially doing the same thing. I have always given credit to the artist and included a link to them when I have posted pictures but I do realise that posts, especially on tumblr, get re-blogged like chinese whispers until people that don’t know (or care) are posting tattoos that are THE shit next to tattoos that ARE shit with no acknowledgement of context or pedigree.
After I read that post I stopped posting tattoos on my tumblr. I agree with the need to contact the owners of the original image and also not to comment on shit such as technique and longevity, that as an enthusiast rather than a tattooer, I can only judge on what I’ve SEEN not DONE.
However, I have always posted with the best intent and mainly because I envy the person with the tattoo rather than trying to swing my blog dick in front of my followers.
